Nicole Mayeda, Psy.D.

Clinical Psychologist in CA and OR

I received my doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology (Psy.D.) from Alliant International University (formerly the California School of Professional Psychology) in San Francisco. My first five years, I worked in a variety of Bay Area community health settings. For the last ten years, I have focused on seeing teens and adults for individual, couples, and group therapy in my private practice and am now dually licensed in California and Oregon. I am a graduate of the Trichotillomania Learning Center's Virtual Training Institute, and member of personal and professional organizations for social justice. I am passionate about blending psychodynamic, somatic, ACT, CBT, IFS, and ERP approaches for the healing and liberation of all people.

My main areas of clinical focus are:

  • BFRBs such as hair pulling, skin picking, and nail biting

  • depression

  • anxiety

  • OCD

  • ADHD

  • trauma

  • addiction

  • systemic inequity and oppression

Who You Are

I tend to see a lot of individuals who have a vague sense that something is missing despite general success in their lives. This becomes especially perplexing for this group of individuals who can usually rely on making cognitive sense of situations. My practice involves helping these individuals to recognize losses, to acknowledge they can have needs without being needy, to feel worth beyond their achievement, and to appreciate that we have inner and outer lives that are really complex. I prefer to see folks who are looking to move beyond their customary self-sufficiency to explore more fluidity, non-judgment, and interconnectedness.

What You Can Expect

In the room, I will feel like a real person to lead you through wholeness, aliveness, spontaneity, and honesty by example. I will provide you with education and information, and also ensure you can take that deeper into your body with meditation, movement, and real-life applications. Here are some areas you can expect to improve by working together:

  • Understanding the reasons compulsive behaviors (e.g. BFRBs, binge eating) occur

  • Connection to yourself and others

  • Motivation through inspiration and intuition, and not just fear

  • Acceptance of the things you cannot change

  • Changing of the things you cannot accept

  • More flexibility and reduction of "shoulds"

  • Self compassion > Self esteem

  • Self-assertion, especially regarding needs, limits, and boundaries

  • Divestment from oppressive beliefs and practices

My Values

Ableism, capitalism, colonialism, heterosexism, poverty, white supremacy, and patriarchy are burdens - NOT you! I believe in land back, rest, accountability, redistributing wealth, clean water, disobedience, collective healing, and inner wisdom. I believe in abolishing our carceral orientation, dismantling worth based on productivity, and that we all deserve a world that doesn’t hurt. BIPOC and LGBTQ folks welcome!

Psychotherapy will be conducted via telehealth at this time.

Contact

I offer a free initial phone consultation. Speaking briefly over the phone can help determine if we should take the next step and schedule a meeting. We can discuss fees and the nature of our projected work together in our first few meetings. If, by the end of this period, we feel like this may be a good fit we can begin to meet regularly. I will try to provide you with an appropriate referral if an alternative provider is needed.
